Homecare/Community Alarm Members in DCC

Thanks to all of you who completed the health and safety survey we sent out. This was in response to issues that were being raised by some of you and was to help provide a better picture across the city. We are sending these survey results to management today and we will keep you informed about any discussions.
The results of the survey are very worrying – please remember that you can refuse to go to a duty if it is putting you in potential jeopardy. If a duty is risk assessed for two people, then you can refuse to carry out that duty if you find yourself alone.
The particular issues within the Maryfield team should have been addressed. If this is not the case, then please contact us as soon as possible on07946675969 Monday through to Wednesday (am) or07946661375 Wednesday (pm) through to Friday or email us dundee@gmb.org.uk
69% of you told us that you were either sometimes or all the time being put under pressure to carry out duties outside of your normal duties.
19% of you told us that you have been hurt this year while carrying out your duties – that is just under a fifth of you and is completely unacceptable.
12% of you told us you had to take sick leave to recover from those injuries. Please remember if you have been hurt at work and it hasn’t been your fault, the union’s solicitor’s may submit a personal injury claim on your behalf. Please contact them on 0300 333 0303 if you fall into this category or call us if you are unsure.
48% of you told us you do not feel that management are listening to you or supporting you when you raise health and safety concerns.
54% of you told us that proper risk assessments are NOT in place for each duty, with a further 4% unsure.
46% of you told us that proper moving and handling assessments are not in place for each duty with a further 15% of you unsure.
49% of you told us that you are being expected to work without appropriate safety measures in place.
