You may now be aware that the imposition of split shift working was not passed last night at the Policy and Resources council committee meeting.

There are many reasons we believe this was deferred to summer recess, not least because of the incredible deputations that were delivered at the meeting itself by Susan Marnie GMB and Jim MacFarlane on behalf of the joint shop stewards. The fact that so many members turned out and made your feelings known and your voices heard at the meeting no doubt had an impact and for that we thank you.

Some of you have been in contact with councillors which has been really important in our campaign to stop Dundee city council making those of you work split shifts who simply cannot and you should continue to do that in the run up to the next report which is to be produced by the summer recess (Summer recess begins Saturday 30th June).

The campaign is not over however and it’s important that as many of you as possible get involved. If you were inspired by your GMB rep Susan Marnie speaking on your behalf last night (we know we were) and you would like to get involved, please call the Dundee office on 01382 225491 to let us know, or speak to Susan yourself.

There’s never been a more important time for members to become involved in your union when Dundee city council are planning on millions of £££££££££££££££s in cuts. This will heavily impact on workers and the vital services you all provide.

Last night was an incredible show of solidarity and we hope that this continues. You are the union and only you can affect change with our support.

It’s also really important to keep us up to date with your contact details to allow us to keep you informed of any updates. Please call the number above to let us know of any changes
