Recently Tayside Contracts have written to furloughed staff looking for volunteers to help clean in care homes and possibly catering.
GMB recognise that we are in the middle of a pandemic and that has put areas such as care, under strain.
However, we have a duty of care to our members, with this in mind, we would ask all members to make sure that they are fully aware of health and safety and what must be in place. Especially in care home environments. As you will potentially be exposed to covid 19 much more.
It is essential that you see a copy of the Covid Risk assessment, this will detail the required PPE that you MUST have.
Testing must be performed and you must be offered the vaccine.
No moving buildings, you must remain in the work ‘bubble’
If you have an underlying condition, then you MUST have an individual risk assessment. We would ask you to consider if you should volunteer for these roles, as you may be more at risk.
We are not discouraging volunteers. But we must make you aware of the above to ensure your kept safe at work.
