GMB@COSLA UPDATE – Confronting the cost-of-living crisis

Dear Member

RE: GMB Scotland in COSLA: Confronting the cost-of-living crisis

COSLA’s 2 per cent offer for your 2022/23 pay deal would turn a cost-of-living crisis into a catastrophe for many local government workers and their families.

For more than three-quarters of the workforce, it would mean an increase of less than £10 a week against the backdrop of soaring inflation and punishing energy bills.

But for the highest-paid local government officials, it will mean £2000 a year more on their already eye-watering six figure salaries.

The prospect of key workers going from the frontline of the response to COVID-19 to below the breadline in 2022 is appalling.

That’s why we are asking you to vote in our consultative ballot now. We can only confront COSLA’s pitiful pay offer with your participation.

Encourage your colleagues who are in the GMB to vote and if they aren’t in a union to join GMB.

GMB have written to Scottish Government to outline that any Government budget underspend should be spent on thanking the frontline workers that they ignored last time.

Ballot closes 24/03/22

Yours sincerely
