RE: GMB Scotland in COSLA: Your Ballot Final Countdown
Many of you have already voted in the COSLA ballot and we thank you for this. The ballot is closing soon, and we really need ALL of you to vote. We are bound by legislation and are required to meet a legal threshold in order to take any action.
This is your pay, 2% in light of everything that you have gone through over the past 2 and a half years is unacceptable particularly with inflation currently sitting at 9.1%.
We are aware that some of you may be apprehensive about taking industrial action, but the threat of action is often enough to get the employers side back around the negotiating table. For evidence of this, you only need to look at the train drivers who had their offer improved substantially after voting in favour of action. The action itself was not required.
This further highlights the need for you to return your ballot paper. The ballot closes on 26th July, so in order to ensure that your ballot is counted, you will be required to post it by Friday 22nd July, to ensure it is returned in time. Please make sure that you do this.
It is your pay, and this is a national bargaining unit, the more local government workers who vote for action, the stronger the message that COSLA and the government receive. This is the only way to ensure that you are properly recognised for the work you do.
Your vote is your voice, make sure it is heard!
