GMB LACD – Community Hubs Update

Dear Member
REF: LACD – Community Hubs update
GMB made representations on your behalf last night at the Dundee City Council meeting.
A paper was presented asking councillors to approve consultation to create community hubs beginning in Kirkton. This would potentially mean the closure of Kirkton community centre and services there to operate from St Pauls and/or Baldragon.
The paper also mentions moving to a similar model in Charlston and Fintry and has wide reaching implications in the future.
The schools are not fit to include community centres, and we have safety concerns over this for you as our members, and the pupils. There has been no consultation so far.
We do not know who will operate these hubs such is the lack of detail or notice the trade unions received. Will Leisure and Culture Dundee members continue to man these sites or will Dundee City Council members be required to change working patterns to operate them? We have many questions that remain unanswered.
What will this mean for jobs? Be assured GMB Scotland will be at the forefront of these discussions and we will not allow cuts to take place by the back door.
We want to thank Michael Charlton who made these representations on behalf of GMB and we would like to encourage more of you to get involved. There has never been a more important time when Dundee City Council are continuing to make cuts that may affect everyone. Please contact us at dundee@gmb.org.uk if you would like to get involved or would like more information.
